BIOOne And The Same are a Melbourne-based four piece - violin, guitar, bass & drums - who play clean, sparse, emotionally charged, twangy dirges laced with urban story telling and a liberal dose of black humour. The band rose from the ashes of Cream of Tartar and have been playing the Melbourne venues for the past ten years. James Staughton (drums) & Terry O’Reilly (vocals/guitar) have played together in 3 bands – Honeywagon, Cream of Tartar and One And The Same - over the past 10 years. Lewis Piera (bass), a founding member of Honeywagon, worked on several other projects before getting back together with James and Terry to release High Pressure Sodium. The latest inclusion to the band is Simon Mariani on bass. Steve Staughton (violin) replaced ex-guitarist Matt Utber. High Pressure Sodium, was recorded in 2003 on 2 inch analogue tape by Barry Stockley at Fatsound Studios in West Melbourne. It features the eastern melodies of Stephen Staughton on violin, vocals & the warm vibrato of Terry O’Reilly on the Hagstrom Swede guitar, Lewis Piera on bass/vocals & James Staughton on drums. Special guests appearing on the album include: Mia Dyson – vocals (acclaimed debut album – Cold Water), Ken Gardner - Trumpet (Augie March, Black Eyed Susans, Disappointments) and Simon Howard - cello. 15gNET, recorded under the name Cream of Tartar, was released in 2000 through Blah Blah Blah Records. The album is still available through our current label, Laughing Outlaw Records. Visit the website or drop in and see Stuart & Karen at the very cool Laughing Outlaw Records store in Lewisham, just next to the station. The band is currently working on material for an EP release. |
